beeping and blinking lights

i purchased a rechargeable ni-mh battery and have probably charged it twice and have had no problem. i recently tried to use it after charging and all it does is beep and flash the 2 lights simultaneaously. what is the problem?...

My camera is several years old.

It was worked fine. I went to use it the other day, and it is completely dead. It's like an empty shell. I switched out batteries and still nothing. I wondered it my pc would recognize it, and no luck there either. Have you heard of this happening?...
