I am having problems with my dvd-rom

Hi, there.. just got the r32 ibm thinkpad series.. I like this laptop a lot... I changed from cd-rom to dvd-rom. However it showed inconsistency.. sometimes it detects, sometimes it doesn't. I needed to remove the dvd-rom and then put it back in again and then restart my laptop just to see if it detects....

keys usage

i m having thinkpad ibm r32 but i dont no what is the use of fn key and other symbolic keys which is on f2,f3,f12 etc...
